Description
The British Expeditionary Force (BEF) was the name of the British Army sent to France in 1939 after Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany. Allied with Belgian and French forces, its ten infantry divisions were supported by artillery, tank brigades and air squadrons, with over 300,000 men in total. Despite fighting well they were outmanoeuvred by the advancing German Army, leading to tactical withdrawal and the evacuation at Dunkirk.
